Tramadol is a narcotic-like pain reliever that can be used for pain caused by injuries or muscle spasms. You must not take this medicine if you have a history of an addiction to drugs or alcohol, as the risk of developing an addiction is higher. In some cases people taking tramadol may develop a seizure. The risk can be higher if you have a history of a head injury, drug or alcohol addiction, metabolic disorder or some seizure disorder. Make sure you discuss all the possible risk factors with your health care provider before starting the treatment. Please report to your health care provider the following medications in case you are currently using them: quinidine, blood thinners, rifampin, ketoconazole, erythromycin, St. John's wort, digoxin, seizure medications, and other antidepressants, as they may affect the dose you are prescribed. Make sure your doctor knows that you have or used to have any of the following medical conditions, such as kidney disease, liver disease, history of depression or mental illness, history of a suicidal attempt, or any stomach disorder.
